Topanga Beach

Topanga Beach is best known for its tight-knit community of artisans, surfers, and artists. It’s an area of California that has preserved the nostalgia from 1970s counter-culture. The community was named by the Native American indigenous Tongva tribe and translates to,

“Where the mountain meets the sea.”

Each day while driving from my home in the hills of Topanga to my photography studio in Santa Monica, I passed along a specific point that I couldn’t ignore as easily as most drivers along the Pacific Coast Highway. It became my daily practice stop and to photograph the beach from nearly the same spot, keeping the horizon always in the middle, looking straight out onto the Pacific Ocean.
