Iconography
“Iconography" is an ongoing series of black and white photographs that began in 2003. Inspired by the history of mugshots, a unified practice of documenting physiognomy, Hosch created a light setup with the same intention-a desire to reveal the details that are often softened or edited in our culture. Using a portable photo booth style set up with the ring flash as the key light-the most direct possible light source. Everyone has to step inside the same box-no matter if you're a rock star or a politician, an athlete or an artist, or just a man in the street. Thus the democratization of light makes anybody who steps in front of the lens an icon.
